We are a Brazilian company producing renewable energy and sugar, composed of people committed to sustainable development.
From sunrise to sunset, year after year, we roll up our sleeves and move forward to make the future of clean energy happen in Brazil. With nearly a century of history in the northern Paraná region, our journey is marked by the ability to adapt and grow without sacrificing sustainability. All of this is made possible with the assistance of nature, science, technology, and all the benefits that progress can bring, not forgetting the talent and dedication of truly committed individuals.
OUR NUMBERS
Our story
Strong roots never
stop growing.
The story of Companhia Melhoramentos Norte do Paraná begins in the last century, in the 1920s, when a group from England arrived in the region, playing a key role in the economic development of an area spanning 13,200 km2. Londrina, Arapongas, Apucarana, Maringá, Cianorte, and Umuarama are some of the dozens of cities that were founded. Later, in 1944, the company was purchased by Brazilian entrepreneurs, marking the beginning of new ventures and a fresh economic cycle.
In 2011, with a new ownership structure, the company shifted its focus to the sugarcane energy sector, starting with a mill in the city of Jussara. In 2012, the Nova Londrina unit was acquired, and in 2022, the Vale do Paraná unit was added, leading to a significant increase in sugar milling production.

CERTIFICATIONS
Affirmation that we are on the right track.
Each certification we earn reinforces our daily commitment to positively impacting the lives of individuals and the communities we engage with, contributing to real, sustainable change for society as well as the planet. Check out the certifications below.
In 2020, the three production units were certified by the Renovabio Program, which aims to expand the production and use of biofuels in the Brazilian energy matrix, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This certificate allows the issuance and trading of decarbonization credits.
The Jussara Unit is NBR ISO 9001:2015 certified. This certification shows, through external audits, that its Quality Management System is effectively implemented and maintained. The other units will soon be certified.
Vale do Paraná has been a signatory of the Green Ethanol Protocol since 2007. Alongside the sugarcane and energy sector of São Paulo, it collaborates to enhance sustainability in the ethanol production chain. As a result, it is transitioning beyond burning, towards a production system with positive environmental impacts, continuing the activities developed by the Agro-environmental Protocols with ORPLANA in 2008 and with ÚNICA in 2017.
With the cogeneration of sugarcane biomass, Vale’s Paraná unit has been certified since 2020 to produce energy for its own consumption, selling the surplus to the National System and contributing to a reduction in CO² emissions.
Vale do Paraná has been certified since 2020 (when it began exporting electricity) by this UNICA, CCEE and ABRACEEL project, which includes companies in the sugar-energy sector that are signatories to the Green Ethanol Protocol.
Vale do Paraná has been participating in the forest replacement program since 2011, offsetting the use of wood in its processes against amounts earmarked for social and environmental projects.
